Our Story

Pastor Tony and ShirleyAnn Scott came to Sylvania Church of God in Toledo, Ohio in 1974 as their first pastorate after graduating from Lee University. Their vision was to impact the city of Toledo and to provide healing to the hurting people in the community. The church grew from a small group to a large congregation in just a short time.

In 1983, the church added to the current property with a new auditorium on Alexis Road in Sylvania, Ohio and changed the name to Cathedral of Praise. For 25 years Cathedral of Praise reached out to the community with a message of wholeness in spirit, soul, and body.

In 2004, the church moved to Strayer Road with a new name and identity. theChurch on Strayer provides an opportunity to create inspiring new ways to reach Toledo. theChurch is made up of people from all walks of life who are committed to making a difference because of the difference God is making in them. It represents a growing group of people of diverse, cultural, ethnic and economic experiences seeking to do life together.

theChurch now has three locations: theChurch on Strayer Road in Maumee, theChurch on 53 in Fremont, and theChurch Online. Future plans for theChurch on Strayer include a new 2,500 stadium seating auditorium.

Our desire is to see you experience an environment where people are excited about life and the difference a real relationship with Jesus makes.
